Thousands of people have gathered in the Spanish town of Vilafranca to build the tallest human structure on Saint Felix Day.

Building a human tower, also called Castells, is a Catalan tradition that dates back to the 18th century.

The Castellers form a solid base foundation of compact bodies in a complicated way that will help support all those who will climb them.

Several amateur teams compete to form the tallest construction, in front of the town hall balcony.

The human tower can reach a height of 9 levels, with strong men forming the base and middle, while young children get up on top.
