Barcelona edge past Athletic Bilbao 1-0
Barcelona have posted a precious 1-nil away victory against Athletic Bilbao, registering their second straight win at the start of the Spanish league season.
Barcelona started their title defense with a 6-2 victory over Real Betis and were once again the dominant side and broke the deadlock of the match as Turkish international Arda Turan delivered a cross onto the head of Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic, who found the top corner with a superb header.
Barcelona maintained the momentum throughout the match but failed to extend their lead as Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez were both off-target on several occasions.
With the 1-nil win, Barcelona joins Las Palmas and Real Madrid at the top of the standings with six points. Luis Enrique's men will next host newly-promoted Deportivo Alaves while Athletic will meet Deportivo La Coruna.
