"40 civilians killed in Turkey's attacks on northern Syria"

Here is a round-up of global news developments:

  • The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says Turkey’s attacks on northern Syria have claimed the lives of 40 civilians. It says the civilians were killed in Turkish artillery fire and airstrikes near the towns of Jarablus and Amarneh. The Turkish army says 25 Kurdish terrorists were killed in its airstrikes.
     
  • Kurdish protesters in the Syrian city of Kobani have warned Turkey to stay away from the Arab country. Protesters vowed to stand up against Turkish troops. The rally was held amid reports that Turkish forces have entered the Kurdish populated city.
     
  • Forces loyal to Libya’s unity government are trying to push Daesh terrorists out of their last positions in the northern city of Sirte. Government forces have restricted militants to a residential area in the city center. Sirte fell to the terrorists more than a year ago.
     
  • Iraq has asked Saudi Arabia to replace its ambassador to Baghdad. This after Shia politicians repeatedly demanded the expulsion of Thamer al-Sabhan over his claims about Iran's involvement in Iraq. The Iraqi foreign ministry has also denied media reports of a plot to kill the Saudi diplomat.
     
  • Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro has praised Iran’s scientific and industrial achievements. Maduro made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Caracas. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two countries’ central banks.
     
  • North Korea has rejected a UN Security Council statement on its ballistic missile program. Pyongyang described it as a product of hostile acts by the United States. The statement has criticized North Korea’s missiles and threatened to take significant measures against the country.
     
  • Days of heavy rain in the US city of Indianapolis have left hundreds of residents homeless. A series of tornadoes has also cut off power to thousands of residents and stranded many motorists. Officials say dozens of people have sustained minor injuries.
     
  • The French Ecology Minister Segolene Royal is in the Iranian capital Tehran for talks. Head of Iran’s Department Of Environment Masoumeh Ebtekar and the French official have agreed to boost bilateral cooperation in environmental sector. Tehran and Paris also seek to implement joint projects in the environment field.
