World's first self-driving taxis in Singapore

First self-driving taxi in Singapore.

Singapore has been the first to add some driverless cars to its taxi fleet.

An autonomous vehicle software startup called nuTonomy is providing the self-driving taxi service.

The startup is a 50-person company which was formed in 2013 by 2 MIT researchers. Right now there are only 6 cars available which ride in Singapore’s business and residential district known as “one-north”.

Although the service is still provided to selected passengers, dozens have already signed up for it. With offices in Massachusetts and Singapore, nuTonomy hopes to fully develop its fleet to self-driven cars by 2018.
