13 people shot in Connecticut house party

The scene of a shooting in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where two gunmen shot 13 people during a party on August 21, 2016.

Police in the US state of Connecticut are searching for two gunmen who have shot at least 13 people at a party.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning, when the shooters ambushed a house party in Bridgeport, Connecticut and shot 11 men and two women through the hedges of a neighboring house.

Police said one of the women was in critical condition after being shot in the face. Another man sustained a shotgun blast to the face but his wounds were not life-threatening.

The other victims were all in stable condition and received proper treatment for their injuries.

Bloodstains at the scene of the shooting

Police had made no arrests and were still investigating possible motives behind the shooting.

US Senator Richard Blumenthal released a statement following the incident, calling for gun control measures.

“More trauma, more tragedy,” Blumenthal said. “Every day more Americans are injured or killed by a bullet is more graphic evidence—unwelcome and unwanted—of the urgent need for common sense gun violence prevention measures."

Mass shootings of this kind have seen a surge in the US over the past months.

Last month, a gunman raided a house party in Seattle and killed three people.

Also in July, 14 teenagers were injured at a house party in California after three armed men opened fire on a crowd of 150 people.

The trend continued with another mass shooting in late July, when at least two people were killed and 15 others injured during a nightclub shooting rampage in Ft. Myer, Florida.

In June, a similar mass shooting at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida, left at least 49 people dead and 53 others injured.

Sunday’s party shooting marked the second horror story to sweep the US over the weekend after a mass killing in Alabama on Saturday.

During that incident, a prowler broke into a house in southern Alabama and killed five people, including a five-months-pregnant woman.

The assailant then kidnapped a woman and a 3-month-old baby from the home but was later on arrested by police and charged with six counts of capital murder.
