Iran's leader: US has failed to gain dominance in West Asia

  • The Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the United States has failed to gain dominance in West Asia. Ayatollah Khamenei says the US has been stuck in the region thanks to Iran’s Islamic Revolution and revolutionary Islam.
     
  • President Hassan Rouhani has unveiled Iran’s first domestically made aircraft turbojet called Oj. The defense achievement puts Iran among the 8 countries possessing the knowhow to build the jet engine. President Rouhani has stressed that Iran never uses its military might against any nation.
     
  • Iran has once again condemned Saudi airstrikes on civilian targets in Yemen. Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari says Saudi Arabia continues to target schools and hospitals as part of its crimes against humanity in Yemen. He also says the Saudis' ongoing atrocities show the UN's inability to stop the aggression.
     
  • The death toll from the bombing that rocked the southeastern Turkish city of Gaziantep has risen to 50. Officials say scores of people have also been wounded in the attack that targeted a wedding party. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Daesh terrorists are likely behind the blast.
     
  • A Palestinian lawyer has collected testimonies that show Israel tortures Palestinian teenagers in detention centers. Hiba Masalha says minor inmates have been tortured, verbally abused, kicked, and slapped by Israeli interrogators. The revelations add to numerous well documented cases of abuse and mistreatment of Palestinian children in Israeli custody.
     
  • US authorities say a raging wildfire in the south of California is now around 70 percent contained. The Blue Cut fire has so far consumed over 37,000 hectares of land and destroyed hundreds of homes and buildings. Thousands have returned to their houses but many are still under evacuation orders.
     
  • Afghan forces have pushed back the Taliban from a district in the northern province of Kunduz, hours after it fell to the militant group. The Taliban seized Khan Abad in a predawn attack on Saturday. The district is strategically located and connects Kunduz to Takhar and other northern provinces.
     
  • The Philippines has threatened to leave the UN after the world body called for an end to harsh tactics in its war on narcotics. UN human rights experts have accused Manila of extra judicial executions of suspected drug dealers. About 900 suspected drug traffickers have been killed since President Rodrigo Duterte took office in May.
