Rio Olympics 2016: Iran's Komeil Ghasemi wins silver in men's freestyle 125 kg

Iranian freestyle wrestler Komeil Ghasemi has won silver in the men’s 125kg weight class, grabbing Iran’s 8th medal at the Rio Olympics.

Ghasemi started off his run with a 5-2 victory over Canada’s Korey Jarvis to reach the last 16. There he made light work of Kamal Abdelmottaleb of Egypt 7-0 to book his spot in the quarter-finals.

A narrow win against Georgia's Geno Petriashvili saw the Iranian reach the semifinals where he met American Tervel Dlagnev.

Ghasemi needed just 33 seconds to win the match by technical fall and book his spot in the final where he lost 3-1 to Turkey’s Taha Akgul to settle for the silver medal. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Saidov of Belarus and Georgia’s Petriashvili took bronze.
