Hezbollah: Triumph certain in case of war with Israel

  • The leader of the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, has pledged victory in any future war with Israel. In an interview with Lebanon’s Al-Manar TV, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said the advanced military capabilities would help the resistance group triumph in the event of a war.
     
  • Syrian warplanes have targeted the positions of PKK-linked Kurdish militants in the northeastern city of Hasakah for the second consecutive day. The Syrian army accuses the Kurdish militants of arousing conflict with their attempt to take control of the city.
     
  • The US army has significantly lessened the number of its personnel involved in Saudi Arabia’s deadly war on Yemen. A pentagon spokesman, however, says the pull-out does not diminish the US commitment to supporting the Saudi-led war that has so far taken the lives of thousands of Yemenis.
     
  • Paul Manafort, the controversial campaign manager of US Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump has resigned. The move came a day after the release of some confidential emails showing Manafort's extensive lobbying history overseas, particularly in Ukraine, where he represented pro-Russian interests.
     
  • Over 17,000 firefighters have been battling with raging wildfires that have devoured large swaths of land across ten US states with parched California especially hard hit. Search dogs have also been deployed to the affected areas to search for possible casualties.
     
  • UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says the world body has a moral responsibility to help Haiti's cholera victims and their families. Ban made the remarks a day after admitting the possible role of the UN in cholera outbreak in the Caribbean nation six years ago.
     
  • The United Nations says some 130 million people across the globe need humanitarian assistance to survive. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called on the international community to raise money for the UN's Central Emergency Response Fund to aid individuals in need of help.
     
  • Iranian wrestler Hassan Yazdani has clinched gold in the 74Kg category of freestyle wrestling competitions at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Yazdani defeated Russia’s Aniuar Geduev in the final. Iran is now 24th in the Rio Olympics medal tally.
