Germany have reached the final of the men’s Olympic football competition where they will take on hosts Brazil.

The Germans, who faced Nigeria in the semifinals on Wednesday, couldn’t have asked for a better start. Only 8 minutes into the match they took the lead through defender Lukas Klostermann. Substitute Nils Petersen grabbed the second in the 88th minute to seal a 2-0 win for Germany.

They will now face Brazil in Saturday’s final in a repeat of their historic Maracana stadium encounter in the semifinal of the 2014 World Cup which the Germans won 7-1.

Meanwhile, the Brazilians booked their place in the final with an emphatic 6-0 victory over Honduras. Star striker Neymar scored twice including the fastest goal at an Olympics in 15 seconds and Gabriel Jesus added another two goals to help the hosts reach the final when they will be seeking revenge for their infamous loss 2 years ago.
