Iran, Burundi must boost all-out relations: Rouhani
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says Iran and Burundi, as members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), must boost bilateral relations in all fields.
“Member countries of the movement [NAM] must play a positive role at the international level by strengthening relations and cooperation,” Rouhani said in a meeting with the Burundian Minister of External Relations and International Cooperation Alain Aime Nyamitwe in Tehran on Tuesday.
He added that terrorism, political meddling and Western countries’ military presence in many areas across the world are among the main problems that the international community is faced with, urging NAM member states to play a positive role in helping elimination of global woes.
Rouhani further called for the expansion of relations between Iran and African countries, including Burundi, saying, “Iran and African states have common goals and ideals and we can support each other in many international circles through our consensus.”
The Iranian president expressed hope that sustainable peace and stability would be established in Burundi, adding that the internal problems of countries must be solved through democracy and peace.

The Burundian minister, for his part, said Tehran and Bujumbura share common goals and viewpoints on bilateral, regional and international cooperation and called for the reinforcement of such cooperation.
Nyamitwe also submitted a written message by Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza to Rouhani and said the two countries should improve relations in international organization, particularly NAM.
The Burundian minister is in Tehran to hold talks with senior Iranian officials. He met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday and plans to confer with Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mohammad Farhadi and officials of the Ministry of Petroleum.
