Austria has hosted the first round of ‘Drone Champions League' with over 40 pilots and 10 teams competing.

‘Race the Ruin’ was the theme for the first stage, and participants competed around a historic castle in the western Austrian state of Tyrol.

Both pilots and spectators were able to watch through special video goggles, and each pilot had a colored drone for each race.

Drones reach speeds of up to 140 kilometers per hour, and the pilots have to navigate through gates and obstacles for a valid round.

The second round of the drone league will be held in Romania in November and the winner will receive 10,000 euros in prize money.
