Four civilians killed in Saudi airstrikes on Yemen
At least four civilians, including two children, were killed Wednesday in a new round of airstrikes by Saudi warplanes on residential areas in Yemen.
The Saudi warplanes pounded the residential district of Nihm in Sana’a province. Three people were killed in the strike, Yemen’s al-Masirah television reported.
Another Yemeni was killed in a similar attack on the northern province of Sa’ada.
The Saudi warplanes also bombed residential areas in Amran province, north of the capital Sana’a.
Meanwhile, the airstrikes on the capital led to the temporary closure of the Sana'a international airport.
Saleh al-Samad, the head of the political council of Yemen's Houthi Ansarullah movement, said the airstrikes flout international law.
The Houthi official added that the aerial transfer of medical and food supplies to millions of people across Yemen has been halted as a result of suspension of flights from the airport in the capital.
On Tuesday, Saudi jets bombed a food factory in Nahda district of Sana'a. Over a dozen people were killed in the attack. More than half of the victims were believed to be women.
The regime in Riyadh has intensified airstrikes on Yemen following the failure of negotiations between the Houthis and their allies on one side and the representatives of Yemen’s resigned president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, on the other.
The Norwegian Refugee Council recently warned that Yemen is facing an irreversible humanitarian catastrophe some 500 days into the deadly Saudi campaign, which began in late March 2015.
Nearly 10,000 people have been killed and over 17,000 injured since the onset of the Saudi aggression.
