Drone racing aims for higher skies with NYC championship

The US National Drone Racing Championships which is held on New York’s Governors Island has officially kicked off.

Drone racing has its own hobbyists but the US National Championships is taking the activity to another level, turning it into a spiced-up mainstream sport.

After a qualifying event dubbed the Liberty Cup, the US National Drone Racing Championships which is held on New York’s Governors Island has officially kicked off.

While drones are banned in much of the city due to air-traffic, at least a hundred of them are zipping across the sky competing for titles.

The tournament has extra appeal with its first-person-view live-streams of the races.

Apart from the competitors, spectators can also watch the thrilling footage as the event is highlighted on major sports channels.

The avid participants, some of whom are university representatives, hope that the intense pace of the drone race will help them explore new horizons.
