Australian students make solar lamps to help underprivileged kids in developing countries.

Australian school students are building solar powered lamps in an attempt to help improve the health and education of children in developing countries.

Students in Queensland are trying to make a difference for underprivileged kids their own age who have to rely on hazardous kerosene lamps to do their homework; in that spirit, they are working on this project that can one day eliminate all dangerous kerosene lamps, replacing them with a green and safe solar-based one.

The students find the benefits of the project to be bi-fold: the students can learn with the hands-on activity and they grow in their empathy for those who may not be as privileged.

The eco- and user-friendly lamps are then distributed by partner organizations that support the school project. The school and the students are hoping to take their project to the next level and go nationwide within the next year.
