Ohio man wanted to attack US Capitol during Obama 2015 speech

A 22-year-old Takfiri man from the state of Ohio pleads guilty to charges that he planned to launch a terrorist attack on the US Capitol as President Barack Obama was delivering his last State of the Union speech.

Christopher Cornell, of Green Township, appeared Monday at a federal court in nearby Cincinnati, where he admitted that he had planned to travel to Washington on January 20, 2015 to plot an attack involving guns and bombs during Obama’s address.

"Yes, ma'am, I plead guilty," he said.

According to court documents, he discussed his support of the Daesh terror group and planned to allegedly “wage jihad,” as he put it.

Cornell (seen below) apparently conducted research on how to make bombs and what potential targets could there be in the US capital.

He had also bought guns at the Colerain Township; two Armalite M-15 semiautomatic rifles and about 600 rounds of ammunition.

His father, who had previously said that his son had been set up by the FBI, has refused to comment on the matter, only saying that "We love Christopher very much and we all support him."

According to his lawyer, Martin Pinales, he was detected by a local confidential informant.

He was arrested after buying the rifles and ammunition and now faces a maximum of 30 years in behind bars.

Before a hearing in April, he apparently started referring to himself as Chris instead of a Muslim name he is said to have had; he also shaved his long hair and beard.
