Here is a round-up of global news developments:

  • More and more militants are laying down their arms in Syria in the wake of the opening of safe passages by the army in Aleppo and an amnesty offered by President Bashar al-Assad. This comes as dozens of families are leaving the militant-held neighborhoods in eastern Aleppo where tens of thousands are facing food shortages.

  • Yemen's Ansarullah fighters and allied army units have killed at least six Saudi soldiers and one Saudi army officer in the volatile Najran region bordering Yemen. Yemeni forces have launched many attacks against Saudi Arabia in retaliation for the kingdom’s deadly war on the country.

  • The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry says the UN-brokered peace talks between Yemeni warring sides have been extended for another week. The talks collapsed on Saturday after the Saudi-backed delegation decided to withdraw from negotiations citing a deal between the Ansarullah movement and former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

  • Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid has overwhelmingly lost a confidence vote in parliament, after just a year and a half in office. Essid's government has been under fire for failing to tackle the country's economic crisis, high unemployment and a series of terrorist attacks.

  • Turkey's armed forces undergo sweeping changes in the wake of the mid-July failed coup. President Rejeb Tayyip Erdogan says the army will report to the defense minister and the military schools will be shut down. Erdogan also plans to bring the spy agency and military chief of staff under his control.

  • South Korean residents in the town of Seongju continue their protests against the planned deployment of an advanced US missile system in their town. They've been holding candlelight vigils for two weeks against the US decision to base the THAAD missile system on a mountain overlooking their farms and homes.

  • Thousands have staged a rally in Scotland in protest at Britain’s vote to leave the EU. The protesters in the city of Glasgow have also demanded a second referendum on Scottish independence. Opinion polls show the number of pro-independence Scots has increased since the Brexit on June 23.

  • Parisians have held an anti-police brutality rally demanding justice for Adama Traore, the young black man who died in police custody earlier this month. The rally came after a second autopsy report suggested that Traore died of asphyxiation. The report contradicts the police statement that cited infection as the cause of his death.
