Three shot dead, one injured in north Seattle

Police were called to the house in the Chenault Beach Road, in Mukilteo, Washington, north of Seattle, where a shooting incident left three people dead and another one injured after midnight on July, 29, 2016.

Three people have been killed and one injured in a shooting attack at a party in a town north of Seattle in the state of Washington, police say.

The shooting occurred after midnight on Friday at a house where at least 20 people gathered for a party in a neighborhood in Mukilteo.

The injured person, who has been taken to a medical center in Seattle, is said to be in a “hopeful” condition.

“Our community has suffered a great loss tonight,'' said Mayor Jennifer Gregerson.  "There were many young people who saw and heard things that no one should ever experience."

Police detained a suspect in Lewis County, three counties away from the crime scene, according to Officer Myron Travis of the Mukilteo Police Department.

The gunman was reportedly armed with a rifle which is also found.  Police, however did not provide information about the motives for the shooting.

In another shooting incident elsewhere in the country, a man was critically wounded, police said.

He was found lying on the ground with gunshot wounds to his lower body just after midnight on Friday at a house in Orlando. Police said it found a car a few blocks away from the house, which may have been involved in the shooting.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), every year, more than 33,000 people are shot and killed in the United States. The US averages 87 gun deaths each day as a function of gun violence, with an average of 183 injured.

The Republican-controlled Congress has so far snubbed efforts of the administration of US President Barack Obama to tighten gun laws.
