Corpse flower blooms in Belgium's botanic gardens

The celebrity plant of the season which produces the world’s tallest flower has become taller than two and a half meters this year.

In an occurrence that happens every ten years in nature, a flower known as the Arum Titan plant or the corpse flower blossoms at the National Botanic Gardens in Belgium.

The celebrity plant of the season which produces the world’s tallest flower has become taller than two and a half meters this year. Arum titan has a strong distinctive smell similar to rotten meat which has brought it the title corpse flower.

The powerful odor attracts pollinating insects to help the species survive. The rare and endangered plant is indigenous to Sumatran and Indonesian tropical forests.

The corpse flower is however cultivated by botanic gardens and avid plant collectors around the world who try to save the species from extinction.
