World's deepest underwater sinkhole discovered in South China Sea

The research team used a Video Ray Pro 4 underwater robot to explore the sinkhole.

Researchers have confirmed that the world’s deepest underwater sinkhole lies in the South China Sea.

Chinese scientists say the blue hole that is traditionally known as ‘Dragon Hole’ was found to be just over 300 meters deep.

Researchers have used an underwater robot fitted with a depth sensor for their investigation. The previous record belongs to the 202 meter-deep ‘Dean’s Blue Hole’ on Long Island in the Bahamas.

Experts say blue holes are strange marine landforms that are vital for marine research and the structure of marine projects.
