Roger Federer to miss Olympics due to knee injury

The Swiss maestro said he will not take part in the crucial events to protect his surgically repaired left knee.

17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer will not represent Switzerland at the Olympic Games and will also miss the rest of the 2016 season, including the US Open due to a knee injury.

The Swiss maestro said he will not take part in the crucial events to protect his surgically repaired left knee. He has been advised by doctors to remain sidelined for the rest of the year in order to fully recover.

Federer reached the Wimbledon semi-final earlier this month but required treatment on his knee during his semi-final defeat to Milos Raonic.

The 35-year-old thanked his fans for their support on his Facebook page and added that he is motivated as ever and planned to put all his energy towards coming back strong, healthy and in shape to play again in 2017.
