The Iranian national men’s basketball team has captured its third consecutive victory at the preliminary round of the 2016 William Jones Cup in Taiwan, defeating the Egyptian contingent in the international tournament.

On Tuesday, the Iranian sportsmen claimed a 75-64 win against Egypt in a match staged at the Hsinchuang Gymnasium, New Taipei City.

The Egypt basketball players made a sound start and tallied enough points to claim the first quarter 22-17.

The Iranian side, however, came from behind in the second quarter, scoring points to surge ahead. They eventually gained a six-point lead and clinched the quarter 23-17.

The Iranians maintained the dominance as the match went into the third quarter. They mounted a string of attacks, and put the opposite side under a relentless spell of pressure to accumulate most of the points and ultimately close the quarter at 19-5.

In the final quarter, the Egyptian squad rebounded from its previous losses and went to great lengths to assume the superiority. The North Africans could take the quarter by 21 points to 15 at last.

Iran basketball team achieved its second victory at the 2016 William Jones Cup on Monday, when it beat Sacramento State Hornets of the United States 70-59. It defeated Chinese Taipei B 73-61 in its opening match on Saturday.

The Iranian outfit is scheduled to face South Korea on Wednesday.
