North Korea has remodeled the central zoo and completed the construction of a nature museum in the capital Pyongyang.

The 35,000-square-meter museum has the space hall, halls for Paleozoic to Cenozoic eras, animal and plant halls and an electronic library.

Over 40 pens have been set up for reptiles, monkeys, elephants, giraffes, horses and other beasts. Officials say it is a modern mass educational and science research center as well as a leisure complex.

The central zoo opened in 1959 and has been a major attraction for the capital city. The renovation work began in late 2014 on the order of the country’s leader.
