Iran to file protest note with IAEA over nuclear doc leak

Here is a round-up of global news developments:

  • Iran is to file a note of protest with the International Atomic Energy Agency about the recent leak of confidential information on its nuclear program to the media. This week, the Associated Press released information about a recently obtained document on Iran’s nuclear program despite an agreement between Iran and the agency.
  • The Syrian government says it’s prepared for further peace talks with the opposition, but without any preconditions. Damascus also says the UN-backed Syrian-Syrian dialogue should continue without foreign interference. Two days ago, UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura expressed hope to resume peace talks in August.
  • The Daesh Takfiri terror group has claimed a bomb attack in Iraq’s capital Baghdad. Seventeen people have lost their lives, including civilians and policemen. Twenty more people also sustained injuries. The attack targeted a security checkpoint in the Shia district of Kadhimiyah in northern Baghdad.
  • Afghanistan is mourning eighty-three people who were killed in twin bomb blasts on Saturday. The terrorist attacks claimed by Daesh targeted a demonstration by the Hazara community in the capital Kabul. The government has banned all public gatherings for ten days.
  • Hundreds of American Muslims have rallied in Washington DC to condemn terrorist attacks attributed to Islam, and Islamophobia in the US. A wave of anti-Muslim propaganda was unleashed across the US after an attack on a club in Orlando left 49 people dead last month.
  • Firefighters are battling a wildfire burning north of the US city of Los Angeles. The blaze broke out on Friday afternoon and has been spreading quickly. It has forced the evacuation of around 300 homes. A burned body has also been found at the site of the wildfire.
  • Nearly fifty Palestinian prisoners are on hunger strike in several Israeli jails. They’re protesting indefinite detentions without charge or trial. The campaign is also in support of Bilal Kayid. The Palestinian inmate has been refusing to eat for forty days now. Kayid’s health has been deteriorating seriously.
  • Saudi Arabia has conducted an airstrike in Yemen’s southern province of Ta’izz, killing six people. Nearly 9500 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in the war since March 2015. The military aggression has put millions of Yemenis in a dire humanitarian situation.
