Tim Kaine formally accepts Democratic nomination for VP
Virginia Spanish-speaking Senator Tim Kaine has formally accepted the US Democratic Party’s nomination for vice president.
Kane delivered opening remarks in Spanish and English, during the first joint campaign event with presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton at a Miami, Florida, on Saturday.
The 58-year-old senator said he and Clinton are "soul mates in this great fight ahead," adding that "I could not be any more honored to stand by Hillary's side."
Clinton picked the popular senator as her running mate in the 2016 race for the White House on Friday.
She described Kaine as "a relentless optimist who believes no problem is unsolvable if you put in the work to solve it."
Clinton said his guiding principle was "the belief that you can make a difference through public service."
Kaine endorsed President Barack Obama’s bid for the White House in 2008 and was among Obama’s top three VP choices that year along with incumbent Vice President Joe Biden and then-Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana.
Clinton’s announcement came two days after Republican Party’s nominee for vice president Mike Pence, accepted the formal nomination at a tumultuous party convention in Cleveland.
"Senator Tim Kaine is everything Donald Trump and Mike Pence are not," Clinton said. "He is qualified to step into this job and lead on day one."
