Gael Monfils books spot in semi-final of Citi Open

Following the tennis news and at the Citi Open second-seeded Gael Monfils has booked his spot in the semi-final of tournament by defeating American Sam Querrey 2 sets to 1 at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center.

The Frenchman started the match quite well on Friday, taking the first set with 6 aces and not giving up a single break opportunity on his way to a 6-4 win.

But, Querrey fought back in the second set and won 3-6 to tie the match at 1-apiece. Monfils, however, was back to his powerful form in the third.

He converted 17 of his 25 services and saved 2 break-points to advance into the next round with a score-line of 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. He’ll play against 19-year-old Alexander Zverev in the semis.
