The Republican delegates who oppose Donald Trump are making a last-ditch effort not to allow the real estate mogul to win the party’s nomination for the 2016 presidential election.

Delegates Unbound, a group working to free delegates from their pledge to vote for Trump, said  Monday afternoon it had garnered enough support to force a roll call vote.

According to the Hill, the group aims to “vote down the rules package in its entirety in order to force the party back to the drawing board under pressure to unbind delegates. But the effort will likely only gum up the process, as it remains extremely unlikely the effort can find the 1,237 delegates needed."

Delegates Unbound co-founder Dane Waters said, “Despite every obstacle thrown in our way, the movement of all the stakeholders involved in this effort have gained a majority of the delegates in 10 states… Now we take this fight to the floor.”

Waters’ remarks came shortly ahead of the first day of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, where the reality TV star was set to gain the nomination.

During primaries and caucuses across the United States, Trump managed to secure the 1,237 delegates needed for nomination.

According to the Hill, the anti-Trump initiative will “likely only gum up the process, as it remains extremely unlikely the effort can find the 1,237 delegates needed.”
