Belgium have sacked national coach Marc Wilmots after the team failed to get beyond the quarterfinals of the Euro 2016 Championship.
The Belgian Football Association announced the decision to part ways with Wilmots on Friday, while he was supposed to stay with Belgium until after the 2018 Russia World Cup. According to the governing body, the search for a new manager will begin immediately.
The 47-year-old took the helm at the national side in 2012 and led Belgium to the quarterfinals of the 2014 World Cup.
During the Euro 2016, they once again reached the quarterfinals but were knocked-out of the tournament following a 3-1 loss at the hands of Wales.
