Scientists detect matter wobbling around black hole
An international team of scientists has for the first time ever detected matter wobbling around a black hole.
The European Space Agency says the discovery proves the existence of a "gravitational vortex" around the black hole.
It means that the space-time around the black hole is distorted due to the huge mass of the celestial body.
Scientists say when matter gets sucked into a black hole, it begins to heat up and eventually reaches millions of degrees.
Then it starts to beam X-rays into space before it passes into the black hole and is lost from view forever.
The discovery can help researchers understand more about how matter behaves in the intense gravitational forces near black holes.
