Russian man launches hot air balloon record attempt

64-year-old Fedor Konyukhov launches from Australian outback with aim to fly around the world solo in his hot air balloon.

Some people go to great lengths to get into the Guinness Book of World Records. Take this Russian man for example. He has set off to try and fly around the world solo in this hot air balloon.

64-year-old Fedor Konyukhov took off from Australia. It’s not the first risked adventure he has attempted. He previously climbed Mount Everest and rowed 16000 kilometers across the Pacific Ocean.

But to beat this record, he will have to do it in less than 13-and-a-half days, something American Steve Fossett did in 2002. Attempting to fly the world solo has been a childhood dream of Fedor.
