Michael Matthews won stage 10 of Tour de France

Australia's Michael Matthews has won stage 10 of the Tour de France while Britain’s Chris Froome retained the overall lead.

Tuesday’s stage took the riders on a 197 kilometer route where Matthews finished first in a time of 4 hours, 22 minutes and 38 seconds to claim his first stage win at the sport's biggest race.

World champion Peter Sagan ended his day in second place with Edvald Boasson Hagen of Norway in third.

Froome finished 9 minutes and 39 seconds behind in the main peloton but kept the Yellow Jersey. The 2-time Tour champion has a 16-second overall lead over fellow Briton Adam Yates, with Irish rider Dan Martin in third place, who is 19 seconds further back.
