Here is a round-up of global news developments:

  • A long-awaited inquiry into the Iraq invasion says Britain's decision to go to war in 2003 had a "far from satisfactory" legal basis. The inquiry, known as the Chilcot report, says the military action was not the last resort. It also said ex-Prime Minister Tony Blair's case for military action was overhyped.

  • Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has reacted to the Iraq inquiry, which has slammed him over the legal basis of the war. Blair said he acted in Britain's best interests in the Iraq war. He stressed the removal of Saddam Hussein was not the cause of today’s terrorism in the Middle East.

  • Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the Zionist regime will be slapped in the face for exerting pressure on Palestinians. He stressed that Palestine remains a key issue in the Islamic world. Ayatollah Khamenei was addressing Iranian officials and envoys from Muslim states to Tehran.

  • Earlier in the day, Ayatollah Khamenei said perpetrators of the recent terrorist attacks in Iraq and Turkey have been trained by the US, Israel and the UK. The Leader was addressing thousands of worshippers in Tehran after the Eid al-Fitr congregational prayer, which he led.

  • The Syrian government has declared a nationwide 72-hour truce as the country celebrates Eid al-Fitr. President Bashar al-Assad attended the Eid prayers in Homs, in a rare public appearance outside the capital. He joined worshippers at the al-Safa Mosque in the city.

  • Israeli forces have used live fire to disperse Palestinian protesters in the village of Dura near the occupied West Bank city of al-Khalil. Fifteen Palestinians were injured. Violence has been flaring up in the West Bank following a Monday Israeli raid on the Qalandiya refugee camp.

  • Two car bombs have rocked Yemen’s southern city of Aden, killing ten people. The blasts took place at a military base near the city’s international airport. Still, there’s no claim of responsibility. Aden is controlled by loyalists of the Saudi-backed fugitive former government of Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.
