Defending champion Novak Djokovic has eased into the 3rd round of the Wimbledon Open, after wrapping up a straight-sets victory over Adrian Mannarino at Center Court.
Mannarino showed some promise in the opening set, but the World Number 1 fought back, producing some stunning winners in the breaker to seal it 6-4. The Serbian ace had no trouble taking the 2nd set, as he outclassed his French opponent 6-3, demonstrating some thunderous forehand winners.
Mannarino got close to a comeback at some point, but it wasn’t enough to oust a player of that caliber, as he lost the third set 7-6. Djokovic is eyeing a 3rd consecutive Wimbledon Title this year.
17-time Grand Slam Champion Roger Federer also reached the 3rd round of the Wimbledon Open with ease following a straight sets victory over 25-year-old Marcus Willis at the All England Club.
The Swiss maestro showed a powerful performance and only needed 1 hour and 27 minutes to overwhelm his British rival on Wednesday. Federer won the match with a score line of 6-Love, 6-3, 6-4 to progress into the next round. He’ll next play the winner of the match between Daniel Evans of Britain and Ukraine’s Alexandr Dolgopolov.
And Australia's Bernard Tomich has booked his spot in the second round of the tournament after defeating Fernando Verdasco of Spain in a five set thriller.
The rain interrupted match lasted two hours and 45 minutes. The 19th seed joins fellow Australians Nick Kerios, John Millman, Daria Gavrilova and Samantha Stosur in the second round. There were also wins for Dominic Team, Tomas Berdych and Alexander Zverev on Wednesday.
