Clinton most war-mongering candidate in 2016 race: Activist

Former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton has been the most war-mongering” candidate among all the hopefuls that have entered the race for 2016 presidential election in the United States, says a social justice activist.

Myles Hoenig made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Wednesday, while commenting on a recent poll that showed the former First Lady is maintaining a 2-point national lead over her Republican rival, Donald Trump.

In the Quinnipiac University survey released earlier in the day, Clinton leads Trump 42 to 40 percent.

With third-party candidates coming into equation, the Democratic presumed nominee still holds a 39-percent, two percent more than Trump, while Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson earns 8 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein gains 4 percent.

According to Hoenig, polls are momentary and prone to change in the run-up to the 2016 vote, especially because Clinton’s Democratic rival, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, has been “quiet” in the past week.

Sanders speaks to supporters in Manhattan at an event where he went over his core political beliefs on June 23, 2016 in New York City.

“Although polls can show trends, often they’re more of a snapshot at the moment and how people feel. It’s not surprising that Clinton leads Trump at this point,” he said. “Trump has had a lousy week and Clinton, on the other hand, has not had a lot of Sanders’ attacks to diminish her in the eyes of the general public.”

Hoenig also referred to reports indicating that Trump, a reality TV star and real estate mogul, never expected to win and wished to end up at least as a “protest candidate” at the beginning of his campaign.

Trump speaks to guests during a policy speech during a campaign stop at Alumisource on June 28, 2016 in Monessen, Pennsylvania.

“Many dignitaries in the Republican Party are deserting him and notable Republican war hawks are publically endorsing Clinton. That’s not surprising as she is the most war-mongering of all the candidates out there during this election cycle.”

The activist also referred to Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren’s endorsement of Clinton, saying, she was “supposed to be the attack dog for the banking industry, yet here she is now supporting the banking industries’ number one candidate.”

In regard to Sanders, who has failed to gain enough delegates to defeat Clinton, Hoenig said, the senator “has openly stated that he would vote for her,” although he has not dropped out of the race yet.

“His message and movement may be growing but he is being marginalized,” he said. “Clinton clearly has the upper hand in promoting her views on war, Israel and the one-percent agenda.”
