Here is a round-up of global news developments:

  • Iraqi military officials say the army has managed to fully liberate the strategic city of Fallujah from Daesh. Iraqi forces launched a large-scale offensive on May 23 to recapture Fallujah, which fell to the terror group in 20-14. At least 18-hundred terrorists have been killed in the operation.
  • Spaniards are voting in general elections, hoping to break months of political stalemate. Four major parties are competing in the vote. Recent polls predict a low turnout due to a sense of frustration among people. It’s Spain’s second general elections since last December. The inconclusive December vote resulted in a fragmented parliament.
  • Britain's opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn has sacked shadow foreign secretary Hilary Benn. Benn has questioned Corbyn’s ability to lead the Labour party. Shadow Secretary of State for Health, Heidi Alexander also resigned early Sunday. Corbin is under pressure because Labour supporters ignored his advice to remain in the EU.
  • Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says a second independence referendum for Scotland is highly likely in the wake of Britain's vote to leave the European Union. The minister says the UK that Scotland voted to remain part of in 2014 does not exist anymore.
  • Israel keeps up its crackdown in the occupied territories. Israeli forces have clashed with Palestinians in the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem al-Quds. They used teargas and rubber bullets against the Palestinians arresting at least four of them. The violence erupted as a number of Israeli settlers were touring the holy site.
  • Bahrainis are pressing ahead with protests against the revocation of the citizenship of top Shia cleric Ayatollah Isa Qassim. Protesters held morning prayers outside the cleric’s house in the city of Diraz, west of the capital Manama. They also chanted slogans in support of the cleric.
  • The US has confirmed that American warplanes have launched airstrikes in Afghanistan. Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook says the airstrikes hit Taliban targets in southern Afghanistan. The attacks come after President Barack Obama's decision to expand US involvement in the war.
  • A massive wildfire in the U-S state of California has claimed at least two lives and burned 150 homes. The fire has swept through 35-thousand acres of parched brush and timber in the region. More than 11-hundred firefighters have been deployed to battle the blaze.
