Poland have progressed into the quarter finals of the Euro 2016 for the first time in their history, by overcoming Switzerland 5-4 in a penalty shootout.

39 minutes into the match and the poles took the lead through Jakub Błaszczykowski who tucked-away a great delivery at the far post, making it 1-0. But the match became more exciting after the restart.

The Swiss pushed hard for an equalizer and finally leveled the scoring 10 minutes from time on Xherdan Shaqiri’s unbelievable bicycle kick.

The match was then forced into extra-time during which neither side could score and the winner had to be decided in penalties. And then Granit Xhaka's dreadful penalty, proved decisive as Poland reach the last 8 of the tournament.
