Here is a round-up of global news developments:

  • European Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker, European Parliament President Martin Schulz, and president of the European Council Donald Toosk have insisted that the UK must move swiftly to negotiate leaving the bloc. They issued the statement after Britons voted by about 52 to 48 percent to leave the EU.
  • Two members of the UK's Labour Party have submitted a motion of no-confidence in their leader Jeremy Corbyn, who was against Britain's leaving the EU. The motion calls for a debate on Corbyn's leadership among the party's parliamentary representatives on Monday. Meanwhile, Prime Minister David Cameron says he will step down in autumn.
  • Britain’s exit from the EU has taken a toll on UK and US markets. Ratings agency Moody’s cut London’s credit rating outlook from "stable" to "negative” while the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted more than 600 points to close nearly three-point-four percent lower. Oil prices have also tumbled by five percent.
  • Iran’s Foreign Ministry says the UK decision to leave the EU will not bring about any changes in the Islamic Republic’s approach toward Britain. In a statement, the ministry underlined that Iran, as a democratic country, will respect the British people’s vote.
  • The Russian president says no obstacles remain to prevent Iran from entering the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the SCO. Vladimir Putin noted that cooperation within the organization is a priority under Russia's foreign policy. The SCO is a regional security and economic cooperation body led by China and Russia.
  • Daesh has reportedly abducted some nine-hundred Kurdish civilians in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo over the past three weeks. A London-based monitor says Takfiri terrorists have killed at least twenty-six of the abductees. Meanwhile the battle for the Daesh-held city of Manbij is underway in the northern province.
  • Forces loyal to Libya’s unity government fend off a counter-attack by Daesh in the coastal city of Sirte, killing at least 10 terrorists. The fighting also claimed the lives of four Libyan soldiers. Since May, Libyan troops have been engaged in an offensive to liberate Sirte which fell to Daesh last year.
