Qatar purchases Super Mushshak trainer aircraft from Pakistan

The Persian Gulf kingdom of Qatar has bought a number of the PAC Super Mushshak (Proficient) fixed-gear basic trainer aircraft from Pakistan.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Pakistani Air Force said Deputy Chairman of the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) Air Vice Marshal Arshad Malik and Qatar's Air Academy Commander General Salim Hamad al-Nabit signed the agreement during a ceremony in the Qatari capital city of Doha.

There were no immediate reports about the exact number of the single-piston engine aircraft that Qatar has purchased from Pakistan.

The PAC Super Mushshak is a more advanced and upgraded variant of the MFI-17 Mushshak basic trainer.

It was designed by and is being manufactured by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, which is a major aerospace, defense, aviation contractor, and military corporation producing aerial systems for both military and civilian usage in the South Asian country.

The PAC Super Mushshak made its maiden flight in 1995. More than 60 units of the aircraft have already been built, and the Pakistani Air Force, Royal Saudi Air Force as well as the Iraqi Air Force are the primary users of the trainer plane.

This comes amid reports that the US is poised to sell fifth-generation F-35 stealth multi-role fighter jets to Qatar and Kuwait.
