Driverless buses hit the streets of Sion

Residents in the southern Swiss city of Sion can now get around by driverless shuttles. The city’s bus company says it is a first for the country.

The fully electric vehicles have eleven seats and travel at a maximum speed of 20 kilometers per hour. The bus company says the use of the two new shuttles would be free as part of the test project.

The shuttles are directed by sensors and GPS, and rely on this technology to detect obstacles in the way. The city’s bus company says there are people in the shuttles that are supposed to ensure the passengers’ safety.
