New York police break up rally held in solidarity with Orlando shooting victims

  • Police in the US city of New York have broken up a rally held in solidarity with the people killed in the massacre in Orlando. Several people have been detained. A number of injuries have also been reported. Officials say the rally was held without a permit. 
  • Iran has condemned the deadly terrorist attack in the US city of Orlando. Foreign ministry spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari says the condemnation is in line with Iran’s principled policy of denouncing acts of terror. He also added that Iran is prepared for an all-out fight against terrorism.
  • Iranian armed forces have killed nearly a dozen terrorists in two separate operations in the country’s northwest and southeast. 5 militants from the Party of Free Life of Kurdistan were killed near the border with Iraq. A terrorist group was also dismantled in Sistan and Baluchestan near Pakistan border. 
  • The ongoing violence in southeastern Turkey has displaced hundreds of Kurdish families. The internally-displaced people are living in a makeshift border camp without water and electricity. They were forced to leave their homes following a government curfew back in March. 
  • A huge explosion has injured at least nine people in eastern Turkey. The blast happened in the town of Ovacik in Tunceli province. The exact cause of the blast is under investigation. Turkey has seen a rising number of bomb attacks and shooting incidents. 
  • A US drone strike has killed three people in Yemen’s southern province of Shabwah. Yemeni officials say the casualties were al-Qaeda militants. The US is under fire for its drone attacks in Yemen, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Many of the victims have turned out to be civilians. 
  • Police have used force to evacuate a group of protesting teachers from a government building in southern Mexico. The building of Oaxaca State Institute of Public Education had been occupied for weeks in a protest against education reforms. The plans have triggered numerous rallies.
  • Police in Bangladesh have arrested eight thousand suspects in a crackdown on militants responsible for deadly attacks in the country. Authorities say the militants have killed nearly 50 people, mostly religious minorities and secular activists. The government has vowed to hunt down all those involved in the killings.
