Three people, including a man on his wheelchair, have been killed as a result of gun violence in New York City.

Eric Oliver, a 31-year-old man, who became paralyzed in another shooting 10 years ago, was fatally shot in the Bronx late Saturday during a night of mayhem across the city.

Oliver took a bullet to the head at around 11:30 pm and died at the scene, police and witnesses said.

Separate shootings in Brooklyn and the Bronx saw two other men dead, while another man was stabbed multiple times in Queens on Sunday, police said.

In one incident in the Bronx, a 32-year-old man was shot multiple times and succumbed to his wounds later in hospital.

In Brooklyn, a 22-year-old man was shot several times and also died later in hospital.

And in Queens, a 33-year-old man was stabbed numerous times in the back but survived the attack after being taken to the hospital.

The violent shootings occurred almost in tandem with the deadly attack in Orlando, Florida on Sunday, where an armed Daesh sympathizer stormed the Pulse Club and killed 50 people, injuring 53 others.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), firearms are the cause of death for more than 33,000 people in the United States every year, a number that includes accidental discharge, murder, and suicides.

Today, it is estimated that there are between 270 million and 300 million guns in the US, about one per person, according to the New York Daily News.
