Leader urges new Iranian MPs to resist the US hostile policies

  • The leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution has urged newly elected Iranian MPs to resist the U-S hostile policies. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei warned of a plot by the nation’s enemies to create ethno-sectarian and political division in the country. The Leader noted that any retreat in the face of the adversaries will embolden them.
  • Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has criticized the United States for accusing Iran of supporting terrorism. Ali Shamkhani dismissed the move as proof of Washington’s double standards in dealing with terrorism. He also accused Washington of using the Daesh terrorist group to advance its agenda in the region.
  • The commander of Iraqi popular mobilization units, fighting alongside the army against Daesh, says the terrorist group's ideology originates in Saudi Arabia. Hadi al-Ameri made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Press TV. He said the US supported terrorists in Syria, who then penetrated into Iraq and started killing people.
  • Turkish armed forces say they have killed at least 27 Kurdistan Workers Party militants in air and ground operations in the southeastern province of Hakkari as well as in northern Iraq. Fighter jets also pounded P-K-K's positions in Dyarbakir province as well as in Iraq’s Gara area. No casualties have been reported.
  • A U-S drone strike has killed at least six people in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar. Local officials say all those killed were members of Daesh terrorist group. The Pentagon claims its air raids in Afghanistan target militants, however, many civilians have fallen victim to such strikes.
  • Italians cast their ballots to choose new mayors in dozens of cities. The two-round ballot in over 13-hundred municipal councils will be completed on June 19. Italy’s anti-establishment Five Star Movement is leading the race in the capital Rome. Some 13 million people are eligible to vote in local elections.
  • Austria's Foreign Minister says refugees who arrive in the European Union should not be allowed direct access to the continent. Sebastian Kurz urged the E-U to discourage migrants from coming to Europe and keep those who arrive on islands. Some 204-thousand refugees have entered Europe since January.
  • A US Navy officer has been arrested on the Japanese Island of Okinawa for alleged drink-driving and injuring a woman. The 21-year-old violated a curfew on US military personnel, crashing her car and leaving a woman with a cracked breastbone. The incident is expected to refuel anti-American sentiment on the island.
