US artists to raise awareness over dangers of plastic bits for sea life

Massive Sculptures of Sea Life Made from Marine Debris by Washed Ashore Project Bring Ocean Pollution.

Plastic pollution has spread to every ocean in the world and into all marine habitats. Yet, many people continue to throw away tiny plastic bits into the sea, without realizing the danger it poses to our environment. Now, an art exhibit in the United States is hoping to change all that.

The exhibition at the National Zoological Park in Washington DC features dozens of marine life sculptures that have been made entirely out of plastic debris.

The team of artists and volunteers collected the plastic waste that washed ashore from the Pacific Ocean.

They then washed and sorted the items, and used them to create the sculptures. It's hoped that the artwork will help educate people around the world about the serious problem of plastic pollution and the need for change.

The impact of plastic pollution on marine life has been disastrous. Thousands of seabirds and sea turtles, seals and other marine mammals die each year after ingesting plastic or getting trapped in it.

Well that means we should think twice before throwing that piece of plastic rubbish into the ocean.
