Iran Leader: US failing to fulfill JCPOA commitments

Here is a round-up of global news developments:

  • The Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution says the US is not abiding by its commitments under the nuclear deal known as the JCPOA. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei also called the US, Britain and Israel the arch-enemies of Iran. He made the remarks in a ceremony marking the 27th departure anniversary of Imam Khomeini.
  • Iraqi Finance Minister Hoshiyar Zebari says the Daesh terrorists are putting up a tough fight in the city of Fallujah, delaying the recapture of the city by the army. Zebari said the terrorists are holding the population as hostages and do not allow them to leave.
  • French President Francois Hollande has called on Israel and the Palestinians to make a quote-courageous choice for peace during a conference aimed at resolving the issue of Palestine in Paris. Neither Israel nor the Palestinian Authority has been invited to the negotiations among foreign ministers from a range of countries.
  • The United Nations has blacklisted Saudi Arabia as a violator of children’s rights in conflicts. The UN says Saudi Arabia was responsible for 60 percent of child deaths and injuries in Yemen in 2015. That's 500 deaths and hundreds of injuries. The blacklist also includes such terrorist groups as al-Qaeda.
  • Amnesty International has urged the EU to halt plans to return asylum-seekers to Turkey. The rights body has called the plans illegal and reckless because refugees don't have access to quote- effective protection in Turkey. Amnesty says Turkey lacks the capacity to process asylum applications and is not a safe third country.
  • Scuffles beak out between supporters and opponents of US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in the venue of his rally in San Jose, California. Police have taken at least four people into custody. The protests come after Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton said electing Trump would be Quote-a historic mistake.
  • A fighter jet has crashed in the US state of Tennessee, killing its pilot. The jet crashed shortly after take-off as the pilot was practicing for a weekend show. Officials are investigating the incident to determine its cause. Another US fighter crashed in the state of Colorado but its pilot ejected safely.
  • Venezuelan security forces have fired tear gas at protesters demonstrating near the presidential palace in Caracas over shortages of food and medicine. The opposition says President Nicolas Maduro is to blame for the economic crisis. But Maduro blames it on what he calls an economic war by his enemies.
