A street party to celebrate the 90th birthday of British Queen Elizabeth II has received a 100,000-pound donation from an anonymous person branded “mystery millionaire” by the UK media.

The festivities are set to be held at The Mall in St James's Park in the City of Westminster, central London, on June 12th.

When prices for the event were announced earlier this year, the organizer, Queen’s grandson Peter Phillips, admitted that the event was “not exactly a cheap exercise.”

There were claims that charities looking forward to partake could not afford the £150-a-head asking price, which paved the way for the “anonymous” to step in and defray the expenses.

“A donor approached Buckingham Palace saying they wanted to donate a number of tickets anonymously,” a source told the Daily Mail. “The Palace approached the Patron’s Lunch organizers to see if they could help facilitate this and then wrote to the 600-plus organizations and charities involved in the event to let them know about the generous offer and the tickets were allocated.”

The anonymous donation of could enable some of the smaller organizations to also attend the event, called Patron’s Lunch.

A spokesman for the event said, “We are delighted that a number of tickets have been provided to patron’s organizations by a third-party donor.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Princess Diana, as well as Prince Harry will take part in the party to host some 10,000 guests.

The event is being promoted by the British media as “one of the biggest” street parties ever with “a luxury hamper-style lunch provided by M&S and ‘carnival-style’ entertainment.”

The queen was actually born on April 21, 1926 but her official birthday is observed on different days in the UK and Commonwealth realms.
