Here is a round-up of global news developments:

  • U-S Republican Presidential hopeful Donald Trump has reportedly won the party’s nomination through securing the required number of delegates. Several American media outlets say Trump's delegate count has reached the needed one-thousand two-hundred and thirty eight. That's enough to avoid a hung convention in July.
  • The fallout from France's proposed labor law reform is worsening with workers in most nuclear power plants across the country saying they would join walkouts. The huge strike action, announced by labor unions, has already led to acute fuel shortage. On Thursday, thousands marched in Paris to protest the reforms.
  • A new research warns about blind discrimination against Muslim women in the U-K, saying the phenomenon is exacerbated by gender and religious factors. The report, by the European Network Against Racism and British group Faith Matter, found that Muslim women are subjected to abuse and harassment in the workplace, online, and public life.
  • Germany says extending anti-Russia sanctions after they expire on July 31 would be difficult amid increasing opposition by E-U countries. The bloc's sanctions were introduced in 20-14 and have been twice renewed. Berlin wants another one-year extension to keep Moscow under pressure over the Ukraine crisis.
  • Two pro-Russia militias have been killed and another injured in fresh clashes with Ukrainian forces in the country’s volatile east. Government forces attacked a town north of pro-Russia forces’ de facto capital, Donetsk. The situation around that city has been reported as tense over the past days.
  • A mass grave, containing 30 bodies including those of women and children, has been found in the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra. The grave was found near Palmyra airport. The city was liberated from Daesh terrorists in March. Many of the bodies are reportedly riddled with bullets, and bear signs of torture.
  • Iraqi armed forces, backed by Shia and Sunni fighters, have liberated the town of Sajar, in northeast of the city of Fallujah from Takfiri militants. The joint forces had earlier cleansed the nearby town of Karmah from Daesh terrorists. The Iraqi army is leading a major operation to retake Fallujah from ISIL.
  • The Turkish army has reinstated curfew in the country's mainly-Kurdish populated southeast. The measure is in place for 15 days and is subject to renewal. The decision follows clashes between army and the Kurdistan Workers' Party militants. Tensions initially began after the collapse of a ceasefire between the two parties last year.
