President Trump will lead US to dark future: Scholar

"I see a very dark future for the United States as Trump and terror hysteria are simultaneously rising,” Barrett says.

US Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s terror hysteria, combined with the ever-growing terrorist attacks around the world means that a dark future awaits America in case the presumptive GOP nominee becomes president, says American scholar Kevin Barrett.

The Madison-based analyst made the comments over Trump’s bold claim that he knew who downed an Egyptian passenger plane that went missing on Thursday.

This “appears to many people in the United States and around the world as another example of Trump’s bizarre tendency to shoot from the hip and say things that have absolutely no backing,” Barrett told Press TV on Friday.

Barrett also described the claim as "a smart step" by Trump, saying the presumptive GOP nominee was going to benefit if it turned out that the EgyptAir jet indeed went down in a terror attack, Barrett noted.

“Trump is actually much smarter than his detractors give him credit,” according to Barrett.

“By hyping the alleged terrorist threat in these hysterical terms, Trump is going to gain enormously from this assuming it turns out to actually be a terrorist incident,” he said.

The situation, Barrett said, also points out the dilemma Trump’s opponents are faced with in understanding him.

“His political acumen is quite extraordinary even as he does indeed pose a real threat to many American traditions,” the scholar said.

Barrett then made an analogy between the EgyptAir crash and the September 11, 2001 attacks, saying in both cases Trump has argued that he knows the real perpetrators but is not likely to reveal them.

“He is going to rise into the White House on a wave of terror hysteria and he is going to be in a position to push the neocon policies that came from the inside job of 9/11,” Barrett said. “That is the war on Islam, the doubling or more of the military budget, ramping up of support for Zionism and Israel.”

The analyst said people behind the creation of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group and similar terror organizations were responsible for the latest surge in attacks over the world.

“I don’t know whether or not Trump knows this, but if he did, he would not have the courage to speak up and I see a very dark future for the United States as Trump and terror hysteria are simultaneously rising,” the academic concluded.
