A secret woodland sanctuary inside New York City’s Central Park has reopened to the public after more than eighty years.

For the first time since the 1930s, visitors will be able to explore the Hallett Nature Sanctuary.

The secret garden was closed to the public by the New York City Parks Commissioner who wanted the area to be preserved as a bird sanctuary.

Park workers began an intensive fifteen-year process of clearing the area to open up the new trails.

The slice of urban wilderness finally reopened after it was revamped as part of a $40 million revitalization project.
