Severed human head found in Cambridgeshire quarry
A severed human head has been found at a toxic waste facility in England’s eastern county of Cambridgeshire, prompting a major investigation by police.
The head was found on Monday afternoon at the Mick George quarry in Mepal, which operates as a disposal facility for asbestos, contaminated soils and other hazardous waste.
The gruesome discovery was made by an employee at the quarry.
Police officers have not been able to determine if the head belongs to a man or a woman. Investigators are also working to establish how long the remains had been at the site.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said, “Officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit are conducting enquiries, both locally and across the county borders.”
Detective Inspector Jerry Waite urged “anyone with information about the finding to contact us.”
He said officers were looking at a site in Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire, where the remains are suspected to have come from.
