Press TV has conducted an interview with filmmaker and political commentator Sukant Chandan from London, and Jihad Mouracadeh, a political analyst from Beirut, to discuss the Vienna talks on the crises in Syria and Libya.

Chandan says the imperialist powers like the United States, Britain and France want instability in Libya, adding they attacked the oil-rich country in 2011 and destroyed the Libyan government with their eyes set on rich energy resources there.

He goes on to say that the Western powers have recently invited the terrorist death squads to wreak havoc in Libya in an attempt to pave the ground for their military presence in pursuit of their own strategic objectives.

“Everything that’s happened since then until today is a reflection of this bickering, this inter-imperialist rivalry, this rivalry between the neo-colonialists in relation to Libya,” he says, noting that the imperialist powers are “competing on who is going to monopolize the energy resources of Libya.”

The “junta” that the imperialists are recognizing as the government in Libya is comprised of terrorist elements, the analyst added.

Mouracadeh, for his part, believes the internationally-recognized government in Libya’s eastern city of Tobruk should be given all the means to face the threat of al-Qaeda terrorism.

He further says, “It is unfortunate that the Libyan parliament in Tobruk has not yet approved this government,” adding, “It is also interesting that the United States has put some restrictions on the president of the parliament.”

According to the analyst, “there are already US troops on the ground in Libya and maybe UK troops as well;” therefore, he adds, “The parliament in Tobruk is increasingly becoming irrelevant.”
