Mercury has once again passed across the Sun. It’s the little planet’s third such pass this century.

This is considered a rare event as Mercury travels across the Sun’s face for only about 13 times in every one hundred years. The event known as “Mercury transit of the Sun” started at 11 GMT on the US east coast and took seven-and-a-half hours.

Residents of eastern US and Canada as well as most of western Europe and South America had the opportunity to view Mercury’s entire journey. NASA’s website provided a livestream for the ones who would like to follow the event. The next transit will be in three years, but after that we will have to wait until 2032.
